About Laura Chappell
I have a passion for color which started in childhood growing up as a third-generation artist in Boulder Colorado. After receiving a BFA from California College of the Arts, in Printmaking, I formed Fisher and Chappell Paintworks. A shared live of representational art and a similar sense of humor were the foundations of our partnership. We illustrated and painted murals, and paintings together for over 30 years, published several books and had over 80 publications. I now work independently our of my Fillmore Studio in Denver, CO. My mixed media paintings and murals represent my continued passion for painting, loving nature and the emotions it evokes. They joy of unexpected details combined with a strong narrative quality are the hallmark of my work.
The Collection
"These works are constructed without photos or resources and rely on a wealth of memories. Sitting down with a blank canvas, I recall impressions, Often you see bleeds, patterns, marks and vibrations in the work. They are intentional, and reflect nature's rhythms, flows, pulses and moods. My pieces can be beautifully balanced, or intentionally disruptive and somber. These paintings can be quiet or have a lush bohemian style.
70 years of western experience, the beautiful natural world which I lived, worked and played are deeply embedded in my imagined landscape paintings."
